- PRODUCT REVIEW Dell XPS One: More Than an iClone
- Something interesting is going on at Dell. The Texas personal-computer
behemoth, long associated with boxy, boring machines, has started emphasizing
industrial design. The company, which in recent years seemed to care
only about corporate customers, techies and hard-core gamers, appears
once again interested in average, mainstream consumers who value simplicity.
The most tangible example of this new approach is Dell's XPS One desktop
-- an elegant, handsome, cleverly designed one-piece computer. MacNewsWorld

- Apple patent is for dynamically changeable OLED keyboard
- An Apple patent for a dynamically changeable OLED keyboard has appeared

- Cannot access secure (banking) sites after Security Update
2007-009 1.1: Fix - We've extensively covered (1, 2, 3) an
issue where Safari is unable to access certain secure Web sites (particularly

- Problems playing audio through USB speakers, fixes
- We've recently received a rash of reports indicating problems playing
sound through USB-connected speakers -- especially after updating to
Leopard. Some users experience an odd phenomenon where sounds refuse
to play through USB speakers, but upon disconnecting the speakers, a
queued up series of sounds plays through the internal speakers, as if
the sounds were clogged in the USB channel then pushed in rapid succession
through the internal speaker once USB speakers are taken out of the
loop. MacFixIt

hotspots (like Starbucks). The company subsequently issued a patch that
obviates the vulnerability by disabling the upgrade mechanism altogether.

- Cannot print after Security Update 2007-009 1.1: more fixes
- We continue to receive reports from users who are unable to print
after applying Security Update 2007-009 1.1. Most of these issues appear
to stem from difficulties with CUPS. As such, we initially recommended
the use of Printer Setup Repair, which can force the CUPS (the common
UNIX printing system) to restart. Unfortunately, the tool isn't Leopard-compatible,
meaning it will only work to ameliorate this issue on Mac OS X 10.4.11
systems with the security update. It also appears that simply restarting
CUPS may not be sufficient -- a re-install of the printing system, or
reversion to an earlier version may be necessary. MacFixIt
