How to check what firmware your NEW iphone is running

  1. Turn your iphone on and touch emergency call
  2. Enter *3001#12345#* then touch “Call”
  3. Touch "Versions" and it will display the firmware version your iphone is running.

If the iPhone displays firmware revision 03.12.06_G or 03.14.08_G, it is using either firmware revision 1.0, 1.0.1 or 1.0.2, and can be hacked to install third-party applications as well as unlocked.

If it is running firmware version 04.02.04_G or 04.01.13_G, the device has the updated 1.1.1 firmware revision

If it is running firmware version 04.02.13_G, the device has the updated 1.1.2 firmware revision

How to upgrade a hacked iPhone to firmware 1.1.2 (from 1.1.1) using OSX

If you have purchased a iphone with firmware 1.1.1 hacked it (using anySIM), you can now updated it to firmware 1.1.2 by follow these instructions:

  1. Follow the Preparation for upgrading to 1.1.2 instructions
  2. Once you have prepared your iPhone for the upgrade follow the Unlock the iPhone 1.1.2 (Upgrade)
  3. When you have completed the unlock you will noticed that everything works correctly apart from the Phone and SMS applications. To fix these download and run the iWorld application from Installer - this is located under Install >Tweaks (1.1.2) > iWorld.
  4. Done you now should have a working 1.1.2 iPhone - enjoy ;-)

 

How to hack (activate & unlock) a NEW iPhone with firmware 1.1.1 (using OSX)

How to upgrade a hacked iPhone to firmware 1.1.1 (using OSX)

If you have purchased a iphone with firmware 1.0.X hacked it (using iunlock (the hack above) or anySIM), you can now updated it to firmware 1.1.1 by follow these instructions:

  1. Follow the Downgrade Baseband 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 OSX instruction from step 3 to step 16.
  2. Once you have completed step 16 you should have a virgin phone baseband locked to at&t - good! now time to update to firmware 1.1.1
  3. Follow the Upgrading 1.0.2 iPhone to 1.1.1 instructions
  4. AND then follow the Preparing to mod 1.1.1 iPhone instructions
  5. AND lastly follow the Unlocking the 1.1.1 iPhone anySIM instructions
  6. Now you should have a fully functioning iPhone upgraded to firmware 1.1.1
  7. You will then need to load back in your GPRS settings and voicemail button edits (scroll down the page for instructions.)
  8. If you find you have an issue with installer not wanting to update itself or where it does not recognise the iPhone firmware follow the steps below to correct it.

iPhone Installer.app fix for hacked iPhone upgraded to firmware 1.1.1 where installer does not recongised it own version or the firmware you iPhone is running

  1. Log in to your iphone using cyberduck
  2. Navigate to the Installer folder: /var/root/Library/Installer
  3. Copy LocalPackages.plist onto your machine
  4. Make a backup copy just in case!
  5. Open LocalPackages.plist using textedit.
  6. Fix Installer issue: Search for 3.0 AND 3.04b - replace it with 2.63
  7. Save the file.
  8. Copy it back onto your iphone, overwriting the existing file.
  9. Restart your iphone.
  10. Enjoy! (note I had to restart a couple of time for installer to finally work - failing that you can delete the LocalPackages.plist file)

How to hack (activate & unlock) a NEW iPhone with firmware 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2 (using OSX)

With the release of the iPhone Firmware update to 1.1.1 follow the steps below to hack your new iPhone: (DO NOT USE IF YOUR NEW IPHONE HAS FIRMWARE 1.1.1)

  1. Update iTunes to 7.4.3.1
  2. Download the 1.0.2 iPhone Firmware file from Apple
  3. Make sure iTunes is quit, and you have disabled the iTunesHelper. (You can force quit the iTunes helper by going into Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and scrolling to iTunesHelper, then clicking it and clicking Force Quit in the top left of that window.)
  4. Plug your iPhone to the computer. Press and hold both the Sleep and Home buttons on your iPhone for about 25 seconds until it displays "Please connect to iTunes" and has a picture of a yellow triangle. It will appear to turn off and back on during those 25 seconds. Don't worry, this is normal.
  5. start iTunes - the following message will appear "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must retore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." - Click OK on this message
  6. In the iPhone window in iTunes Holding down the OPTION key, click on the restore button.
  7. Navigate to your 1.0.2 firmware that you downloaded in step 2. - It will begin to restore
  8. iTunes will then let you know your software has been restored to factory settings. Hit OK, and wait while iTunes waits for the iPhone.
  9. When you see the iPhone appear in your devices in iTunes, quit iTunes.
  10. You now have 1.0.2 firmware loaded on your iphone

Enabling GPRS on an unlocked iphone.

To enable your unlocked iphone to access the GPRS network (so you can access the internet while out of range of a wifi area) follow the steps below (example is for Vodafone NZ, if you are on another network just replace the APN, username and password with that supplied by your network provider):

  1. Touch “Settings” then “General” then “Network” then “EDGE”
  2. Enter www.vodafone.net.nz as the “APN”
  3. Leave Username and Password blank

That is it, you are really to use GPRS on the iphone.

Setting the Voicemail button in the phone application.

To update the voicemail button on your iphone so that it call your providers voicemail box follow the steps below:

  1. Touch “Phone” then "Keypad"
  2. Enter *5005*86*+6421700700# then Touch the "Call" button
    (+6421700700 is the voicemail number for Vodafone NZ - replace this number with the number you dial to access your voicemail.)
  3. iphone will update

That is it, you are really to use to use the Voicemail button to access your voicemail.

NOTE: currently you will not recieve the standard voicemail TXT advising you that you have a new voicemail - still trying to find a hack to fix this.

 

iPhone/ipod touch 3rd Party Software

To install these 3rd applications you need to first install Installer on your iphone - if it is not already on there as part of any activating and unlocking procedure you have followed then follow the steps below to install Installer onto your iPhone:

  1. Touch “Safari”
  2. Enter the following URL jailbreakme.com and touch Go
  3. Scroll down, and touch "Install AppSnapp"
  4. Safari should disappear, and you will be back to the Home screen. Wait for a minute or so (don't touch anything til it takes you back to the "Slide to Unlock" screen.
  5. Slide to unlock, and Installer.app will be installed on your iPhone/iPod Touch!

key applications for unlocked iphone users (install at your own risk):

  • Installer - allows you to install lots of different 3rd party applcations on your iPhone such as the ones below:
  • SendSong - allows you to use songs in your ipod list as your ringtone.
  • Stumbler - show all available wifi networks.
  • Navizon - a great little program that finds your location (based on cell & wifi sites you are connected to) then displays it using the (Google) Maps application.
  • rSBT - allows you to re-order the icons on your home screen. (superceded on firmware 1.1.1 by Customize)
  • SummerBoard - allow you to customise the home screen (springboard screen).
  • Apollo - allows you to chat using the following chat networks: AIM/.Mac, ICQ, Windows Live (MSN)
  • Firefly - streams music from iphone to itunes: to installer open Safari on your iPhone/iPod Touch and enter the following URL http://home.mike.tl/iphone this will add a new source list to Installer. Then open Installer, refresh the source list and navigate to the Multimedia folder. Install the Firefly application and follow the instruction. Launch iTunes, Under Preferences > Sharing ensure Look for shared libraries is ticked. Your iPhone/iPod touch should then appear in the sharing section of iTunes enter the password and you can then stream music from your iPhone/ipod touch to iTunes.
